An Academic All-Big Ten selection and 2020 Srixon/Cleveland All-America Scholar, Whatley finished the 2021 season with six rounds of even or below-par golf, highlighted by back-to-back below-par rounds at the Kiawah Invitational to open the stroke play season. Whatley also added a head-to-head victory against Ohio State to help Rutgers to a 3.5-1.5 win over the Buckeyes at the 2021 Big Ten Match Play Championship

The criteria for induction to Chi Alpha Sigma requires that the student-athlete must attend a four-year accredited college or university that is a member of the NCAA or NAIA. The honoree also must achieve at least junior academic standing by the fifth semester or seventh quarter, as determined by the certifying institution, and must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade-point average of a 3.4 (on a 4.0 scale).

Whatley also begins his fourth collegiate season with plenty of hype. The Rockville, Maryland, native closed out his junior season with five tournament appearances and an appearance at the Big Ten Match Play Championship. Whatley finished 2019-20 with a 74.84 scoring average and in three seasons at Rutgers, has competed in 27 tournaments and captured the 2017 Janney Invitational during his freshman campaign.

Whatley has competed in 26 tournaments with 65 rounds of play during his first two collegiate seasons, which includes back-to-back starts at the Big Ten Conference Championships as a freshman and sophomore. Last season, Whatley finished with a 73.96 scoring average and produced five rounds of under-par golf during the 2019 spring campaign, which included a Top 20 result at the Rutherford in State College, Pennsylvania. Whatley is also the last Scarlet Knight to earn an individual tournament victory during the regular season when he captured the 2017 Janney Invitational as a rookie.

Whatley shined as a freshman for the Scarlet Knights, appearing in 33 rounds over the course of the 2017-18 season. Whatley, who owned a 74.77 18-hole average in the spring and a 74.46 average in the fall, was a Big Ten Co-Golfer of the Week last fall after he captured the Janney Invitational with a 10-under-par 206 (65-72-69), which included a seven-under-par 65 in the opening round. Whatley also produced a two-under-par 68 in the final round of the Big Ten Championships. During the summer, Whatley qualified for the Sunnehanna Amateur after he carded a three-under 69 back in June.
2017 Janney Invitational Collegiate Individual Champion

In just his second career collegiate tournament, Whatley finished the three-round Janney Invitational with a 10-under-par 206 (65-72-69) to claim the individual championship on Tuesday at the Country Club of Virginia in Richmond.
Whatley clinched the title after he carded a three-under-par 69 in his final 18 holes, which included three birdies and an eagle on the fourth hole. Whatley, who competed as an individual for RU at the Janney Invite, was the first individual champion for the program since Jacob Stockl claimed the 2013 Rutgers Invitational. Whatley also led the field in par four scoring at -7 (3.77) with 13 brides and an eagle during the 54 rounds.
